Tip Tuesday:: Back To School Basics

Are you so excited to have your kids home at the end of the day but sick of their shoes, coats and papers being everywhere?? Well then, this one is for you!

Our first piece of advise is ... location, location, location! This is the key to maintaining the madness. There should always be a convenient storage solution immeidately upon entering the home. These fun and functional monogrammed hooks from Anthropologie are one of our favorite solutions for coats and backpacks.

abc, abc letters, letter hooks, anthro, anthropologie, childrens hooks, childrens hangers, childrens bedroom

Now for the shoes! We love any bin that is easy to move and easy to clean out. We also recommend labeling your bins so there is no confusion as to whose shoes belong where. By adding a cute picture of your little one or there favorite animal makes it easy to keep things separate...especially if they are at an age where they don't recognize their name yet.

Probably one of the most important things to keep you sane is having a system for all the PAPERS. The junk mail, the art projects, the homework....complete chaos! Our best advice is to have a system set up for all the papers that works for you and your children. This letter bin pictured here is one of favorite recommendations!

Or this 4-Pocket Organizer from Ballard Designs.

We hope these tips make for a fun and organized school year!

NEAT's Crush:: Hillary Weidner (Kelly), Make Statements

We could not be happier to introduce you all to another one of our not so secret crushes. The new Mrs. Hillary Weidner (Kelly) definitely makes the top of our list when it comes to favorite people and bloggers! This Cincinnati native is never seen without a stunning outfit on and now has an adorable blog called Make Statements, where she shares all of her fashion secrets. We hope you enjoy learning a little about this special lady...

NM:: Hillary, what is your most OCD tendency? Trust us you are among friends!

HW:: I am probably most OCD about my car. I always keep it in tip top shape. When my cookie-loving husband left a stain on my consul from a choc chip frenzy he must have had, I freaked and got my whole car detailed.

NW:: Send us a picture of your most organized space - tell us what items you used to make it look this great and why you love it!

HW:: My Girl’s Room. When I moved into our house, Jordan was already living there and he had already filled the closets with his suits and other clothing.  He was in for a rude awakening.  I immediately claimed the second bedroom as my “Girl’s Room” where I would put my clothes, accessories, and hair products.  Never living with a girl (and I never living with a boy – Dads don’t count), he was shocked by how much “stuff” comes along with a wife.  Here is the disaster that is “before”.

After. The accessories tower that my bridesmaids gifted me was crucial in organizing my space. Since I couldn’t fit all of my clothing into the closet and I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on a new armoire, I opted for this hanging rack from the Container Store. I absolutely love it because it displays my clothes and reminds me what I have. Also, I saw on NEAT Method's blog that you can purchase clear shoes boxes so, again, you know what shoes you have to work with and they have been extremely instrumental in my organization! What is not pictured is the mini flat screen that I have to watch the news in the morning AND, which is more accurate, where I tune in to Real Housewives and other Bravo addictions. All that is missing is a wine fridge to organize my beverages and I am set.

NM:: What is your least organized space? Why do you hate it and what went so terribly wrong?!

HW:: I am beyond embarrassed about my least organized space.  So much so that I thought about not submitting this photo but once I do it will force me to organize the space. Hopefully I will have a great “after” shot for NEAT Method in a couple of weeks.

Since our place is cozy, we don’t have a ton of room for our wedding gifts, my winter clothing, etc.  I immediately started putting everything in the basement and, as you can see from the picture, it has gotten out of control (is gotten a legit word?).  For those that know me, they will be SHOCKED to see that this is what our basement looks like but, you know, everyone has a space like this, right?  Please make me feel better.

Hillary have no fear! Admitting the need for some organization is the first step. We look forward to seeing the finished product and let us know if you need any help or NEAT tips! Thank you for sharing your space with us today!

Now that you all are crushing on Hillary as much as we are, make sure to follow her on Make Statements, Facebook, and Pinterest!!

Tip Tuesday:: Enter To Win...

Good news...there is no entry fee required to win our Paper Pile Makeover! In fact, you have already entered by clicking today's Tip Tuesday! Time to learn our three easy rules to follow so that paper pile up never takes over your desk again.

1) Create an inbox for yourself. Something stylish and small so that you are frequently reminded that it is time to file some things away. By frequently we mean at least once a week, pick a day and time and stick to it. Make it fun ... lets say every Saturday morning you walk to your local Starbucks get a seasonal latte (we are lovin' the pumpkin spice already) and enjoy sipping on it while you make your way through the previous week's stack. Not a bad way to start the weekend off!

container store, office, mail sorter, mail organizer, files, file catcher,

2) Carefully label your files and make your system simple, keep your categories very general, yet clear, so that things are easy to find. Always label everything on the same side and sort alphabetically.

labels, labels for folders, file labels, files, filing, labels for files, office supplies

3) Be careful about what you file. One statistic shows that 80% of what you file never gets looked at again. I mean you have to admit that you are probably going to the internet for new recipes, decorating ideas, and take out menus, so no need to even file those items. Keeping a file cabinet small will help you chose your "keepsakes" wisely.

So the moral of the story is...keep it simple when it comes to filing and you will be much less overwhelmed by all the papers!

NEAT's Crush:: Jessi Sheehan, Evolve

We'd like to introduce you to our new series called NEAT's Crushes! We have quite the list of crushes (not that we fall in love easily), so get ready to learn how these gals live NEAT...or not so much!

Our first crush is Jessi Sheehan, Founder and Head Stylist of Evolve. Besides having an amazing sense of style, Jessi is also one of the sweetest ladies we have met since launching in Chicago. Thanks for the warm welcome to the Windy City!

Jessi Sheehan, Evolve, chicago, blogger, chicago blogger, stylist, chicago stylist

NM:: Jessi, what's your most OCD tendency? Trust us you are among friends!

JS:: My most OCD tendency, thank you Mom, is stacking things (mostly papers) into piles. When I am working on a project, getting mail, needing to go through a magazine, etc. I group like items into piles in the way in which I can work on them. It is my way of organized chaos. If all my papers were in a big pile I would forget about was in the middle or the bottom...you should see my desk. I am starting to come to terms with a filing cabinet.

I am also a very literal person. Things are either black or white, there is very little grey area. I am this way with my clothes especially. I must love what I walk out the door in, or it may as well be in the garbage. There is no in between. My mood is affected by my look each day. I can honestly say I have had a bad day because I so strongly disliked what I was wearing. The way we dress is an expression of who we are, it is another voice giving people clues about us. Dress with intention!

NM:: Send us a picture of your most ogranized space - tell us what items you used to make it look this great and why you love it!

JS:: My most organized space is my accessories. I found these amazing vintage glass boxes at Marshalls. I have to have all of my things out in the open or else I forget about them. As I quickly get dressed in the morning I can easily complete my look. Sometimes I pick the piece first and then style the look around that. The pieces are organized by color, sized smallest to largest, and of course like items are together (bracelets with bracelets, rings with rings, etc).

NM:: What is your least organized space? Why do you hate it and what went so terribly wrong?!

JS:: My least organized space is honestly my closet. An outsider would think I was crazy with this statement, but I spend so much time in other's closets that mine often gets neglected. It is in great condition just not where I want it to be.

Jessi, we totally know how it is to neglect your personal space at times, we do too (shhh...don't tell anyone). Thanks for being our first featured crush!

Now that all of you are just as obsessed with Jessi as we are, please make sure to follow her on FacebookTwitter and Pinterest :)!
